from july 11 through july 22 christies.com is hosting a sale that features over 80 items from fashion journalist suzy menkes collection. "i have never thrown anything out of my wardrobe since 1964," menkes said adding, "there is something sad about clothes laid in a tomb of trunks. they need to live again, and this auction provides the opportunity for them to walk out in the sunshine, to dance the night away and to give someone else the joy that they gave to me."

menkes was named international fashion editor of the international new york times last week.

suzy menkes, editor of the international herald tribune sat down with fern mallis for an interview at the 92nd street Y. among the topics discussed were john galliano:

"it's a tragedy. we know that creative people have all sorts of demons," menkes said. "i would never say that i love hitler in any shape or form ever, and i don't know many people who would. that's not to say that somebody with such brilliant talent shouldn't be given some kind of second chance. but how do you do that is difficult."

ysl has released a statement denying the suzy menkes' story:
"yves saint laurent disclaims and regards as unfounded the current rumours concerning the creative direction of the house."
seems what suzy said: "IF raf simons ultimately takes over the helm at yves saint laurent - as those familiar with situation in paris suggest - the designer will have found a sweet spot for his meticulous modernism." was tweeted by her colleague jessica hoult as a statement of fact & then re-tweeted hundreds of times. according to british elle, jil sander reps said that simons just renewed his contracted as creative director of jil sander for another 4 years.
and there you have it! phew. what would we do without rumours & innuendos?

raf simons to take over ysl?

suzy menkes from the new york times revealed that raf simons is to take the reins at yves saint laurent, replacing stefano pilati as head designer in her review of the jil sander spring 2012 collection.  nothing has been confirmed & pilati's dismissal has not been announced but these rumours have been around for awhile.... coming from suzy menkes may be the confirmation.
