rag & bone diy spring/summer 2011

marcus wainwright & david neville of rag & bone clothing gave full creative freedom and digital cameras to abbey lee kershaw, edita vilkeviciute, sasha pivovarova & lily aldridge & asked them to photograph themselves in rag & bone clothing.  "we have always been inspired by the girls who do the show," said wainwright. "rather than do what every other brand does and have a high-end photographer take very polished shots, we thought, 'let's flip it on its head to get the girls to take over'. we wanted it to be very real."
the two have plastered 1,000 posters around new york with the images and hope to lure people to their new e-commerce site. they have also enlisted elettra wiedemann, details magazine's eugene tong, marie claire's taylor tomasi hill,  v's jay massacret, julia frakes of bunny bisous, & sean sullivan of the impossible cool to submit their own images for the site. "it's about real people and real clothes, clothes that we want people to wear and feel good in," said neville.

pinhole rebel

as a kid there was something magical about taking a photograph. you would have to wait until the roll of film was used and then you would take it to the photo hut to develop. (we had a small drive through photo hut in a parking lot that was about the size of a small vw car!) it would take about a week and you were never really sure what would be in the envelope when you picked it up. the ubiquitous thumb in the corner, the blurred photos, the forgotten pictures - it was always a thrill. you would worry about any nudity - god forbid some old man or pasty teen saw your tatas. you would savor the memories of the past weeks and sometimes even months. then there was the fascination of looking at the negatives ... oh la la. quite a different experience. now we just delete instantly and rarely even make prints instead just uploading.
well, now you can download and make your own pinhole camera from artist jaroslav jurica with easy to read directions! let me know if anyone makes one....i can't wait!
