such a great idea!  the pumpack suitcase includes a pump that compresses clothing to allow for more packing room. the designers are yejee lee, jongchan muh, seobin oh & woneui hong. the pumpack is a 2011 red dot design concept winner but needs to be made immediately!!

lv collection at christie's

on september 28th christie's will offer this collection of vintage louis vuitton luggage in the interiors: style & spirit sale. there are over 20 pieces, dating from the late 19th century to the 1940s, and include suitcases, small trunks, hat boxes & vanity cases. estimates range from £400 to £6,000.

louis vuitton's mon monogram

during the golden age of travel aristrocrats, sporting gentlemen & military officers would have their custom-made luggage emblazoned with their monogram, emblem, racing or regimental colors to distinguish their cases. in celebration of father's day, louis vuitton has selected four different styles of men's luggage to showcase the "mon monogram" program for the jet-set traveler. the four styles are the pégase 45 ($2,800) and pégase 55 ($3,270), the iconic speedy 40 ($1,030) and the classic keepall 55 ($1,370).

LUGGAGE is available in three sizes: mini, medium & oversize & is available in baby buffalo, smooth calfskin, suede, mongolian lamb, crocodile, python & thick collegiate-stripe flannel. the color palatte (of course) are deep neutrals like beige, khaki & black. and yes i want one of each!

hermés archives

hermés has released images of bespoke luggage from it's archive made for danish author karen blixen (a.k.a. isak dinesen), who wrote out of africa. the crocodile skin cases were ordered in 1930 and 1935. hermés noted that the more complex of the two took its craftsmen 368 hours to make. both feature inlays & engraving, with most pieces adorned with a baroness' crown & the author's monogram DBF (dinesen blixen-finecke), a combination of her maiden & married names (her full title was baroness karen von blixen-finecke). the cases feature compartments & leather boxes for spirits, smoking accessories, writing instruments, notepaper, perfume bottles, cosmetics, playing cards, jewelry, small tools, sewing items, brushes & more with some items finished in sterling silver & tortoiseshell. however, hermés notes that the items appear to be unused & probably never made it to kenya & therein lies the mystery. noting that by december of 1930, when the cases were first ordered, blixen was down on her luck and preparing to leave africa. the archives are unclear as to whether she ordered the cases or if they were a gift from another.

to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the red cross, louis vuitton has created the boite spéciale croix-rouge.  the hard-side case in monogram canvas opens frontally to reveal red and grey aluminum medicine boxes arranged to form the familiar emblem of the red cross. the logo of the red cross is also painted on the front of the case.
