bach on sleds

bach on sleds by crosson clarke carnachan architects. whangapoua, new zealand.

on the shore of an idyllic white sandy beach on new zealand's coromandel penisula rests an elegant hut. the site lies within the coastal erosion zone, where all buildings must be removable. the hut is designed on two thick wooden sleds for movement back up the site or across the beach & onto a barge.
the holiday retreat is designed to close against the elements when not in use & measures a mere 40 square meters. it accommodates a family of five & includes a kitchen/dining/living area, a bathroom & 2 sleeping zones (the children's sleep area accommodates a 3 tiered bunk).
