alila villas

the hotel & villa development from architects WOHA is located on the bukit penisula on the southern cliffs of the indonesian island of bali. it has 50 suites in the hotel & 35 residential villas.
the development was designed to exceed green globe 21 requirements. an environmental consultant drafted an environmental plan from the design stage onwards. some of the environmental techniques used were:
all large trees on the site were maintained or transplanted & native plants were used. materials were all sourced locally and local craftsmen in java & bali were used to make interior furniture, lamps & accessories. rainwater is collected & recycled & all wastewater is used for watering plants & in toilets. all the pools use saltwater instead of chlorine. low energy lighting is used & surrounding villagers are employed.
