dreaming of other places

mona kuhn - native

if you are in los angeles i highly recommend stopping by to see this show. mona's work is gorgeous and vibrant and a little mysterious as she herself is.

M+B is pleased to announce an exhibition of Mona Kuhn’s latest series Native, opening October 24 and running through December 5, with a reception and book signing for the artist on Saturday, October 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Shot entirely in her native country of Brazil, this series marks a 20 year return for the artist best known for her alluring figurative studies in a French naturist colony. Kuhn described the work as “a personal journey . . . [like] a bird that flies back into the forest, searching for its childhood’s nest . . . The images here are a creation of my abstracted wishes and dreams”. mbfala.com

margiela

renzo rosso expects to name a new margiela designer shortly. it was only just recently confirmed that margiela was no longer actually involved in designing his signature line. renzo rosso says he's "thisclose to naming a new designer at martin margiela. rosso stressed that margiela will continue to be involved with his namesake label, albeit at a distance." i think this kind of goes against the whole philosophy at margiela of working as a collective.

plastic not fantastic

from photograher chris jordan:

These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.
To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world’s most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

marais usa

i'll admit these aren't my normal shoe choices...the more damage a heel can do the better i like them! but....i'm eyeing the oxfords from maraisusa - super cute and only $88. designers catherine chen & haley boyd were inspired by the eclectric "le marais" district in paris but most of their shoes are great everyday basics. (and most are under $100!) maraisusa.com
