stranded in canton


in 1973, american still photographer william eggleston purchased the newly introduced sony portable video recorder. over the next two years, in memphis, new orleans, and greenwood, mississippi, he created a series of portraits and vignettes that came to be called "stranded in canton."

as you can tell from the title of the show, all of these william eggleston photographs were made in this century. the show is up at cheim & read in new york until february 13th. how amazing are the colors? like a beautiful box of crayons.
