dreaming of other places

artist tamara de lempicka's former workship is up for sale in paris. there are four levels that open onto co-owners' gardens and a view of the cluny convent's gardens. the property includes a workshop with high ceilings, study, three bedrooms, two staff bedrooms, two cellars & a pair of terraces. a wet bar is tucked into a sleek burled wood-paneled area on the mezzanine level overlooking the main space below. the space is listed at 3.9 million euros. le sigh - i would never leave home!

suzy solidor was born in 1900 in brittany, france under the name suzanne louise marie marion - she changed her name to suzy solidor when she moved to paris in the 1920s. she was a popular singer who owned the chic nightclub "la vie parisienne". she became known as the "most painted woman in the world" posing for some of the greatest artists of her time including pablo picasso, man ray, tamara lempicka, georges braque, francis picabia and many others. her only stipulation for the sittings was that she would be given the paintings to hang in her club. she died in 1983 in cagnes-sur-mer.
