nasa finds new life form on earth
nasa has found a new life form in the poisonous mono lake in california. all life on earth is made of six components: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus & sulfur - everything from the smallest ameoba to the largest whale contains these dna blocks. this new life form is a bacteria that lives off arsenic, thought to be impossible as no other life form exists off arsenic. let the alien conspiracies begin!

new species
tube nosed bat
pink eyed katydid
tiny frog
big head ant
white tailed mouse
researchers from the conservation international rapid assessment program have recently disclosed discoveries of over two hundred new species from a two month long expedition in papua, new guinea last year. i looooove the bat! (maybe because he looks strikingly similar to my cat kimba?) he's amazing.

8 is enough

self-styled "artist & technologist", steve von worley, created the graph above tracing the crayola crayon's evolution from the humble 8 colors in 1903 to the present day 120 count. "except for the dayglow-ski-jacket-inspired burst of neon magentas at the end of the 80s, the official color set has remained remarkably faithful to its roots" he says. he has also worked out the 'crayola's law': the average growth rate being 2.56% annually, the number of colors doubles every 28 years, meaning by the year 2050, there will be 330 different crayons (and a much bigger box!).

biosphere 2

the biosphere 2 was billed as "the first large habitat for humans that would live & breathe on its own, as cut off from the earth as a spaceship". the $200 million sealed environment included its own one million gallon artificial sea. it was a near instant failure. the first closed mission lasted from september 26, 1991 to september 26, 1993. sadly, today it is over-run and decaying. these photographs were taken by noah sheldon.
