RGB wallpapers by carnovsky for jannelli & volpi

virgil said in his poem "moretum", color est e pluribus unus - meaning the blending of colors into one. francesco rugi & silvia quintanilla, who are behind the milan based collective carnovsky, were inspired by this and created a collection of wallpapers for jannelli & volpi that mutate and interact with different chromatic stimulus.

8 is enough

self-styled "artist & technologist", steve von worley, created the graph above tracing the crayola crayon's evolution from the humble 8 colors in 1903 to the present day 120 count. "except for the dayglow-ski-jacket-inspired burst of neon magentas at the end of the 80s, the official color set has remained remarkably faithful to its roots" he says. he has also worked out the 'crayola's law': the average growth rate being 2.56% annually, the number of colors doubles every 28 years, meaning by the year 2050, there will be 330 different crayons (and a much bigger box!).

mother of pearl

mother of pearl is designed by maia norman, partner of damien hirst. she grew up in orange county, california, but these days spends her time in devon, england with hirst and their three sons. this is the third season of her re-launched line. the underlying theme of the collection is sinister tropical, sourced from a three month stay in bali where she imagined all the unseen menace encountered in tropical places. she collaborated with artist walton ford and gotta say i'm in love with the t-shirt depicting a monkey strangling a parrot!
