written by attendee baron alexis de redé:
on 12 december 1972, marie-hélène de rothschild gave her surrealist ball at ferriéres. this time the guests were asked to come in black tie & long dresses with surrealist heads. the invitation was printed with reversed writing on a blue & cloudy sky, inspired by a painting by magritte. to decipher the card, it had to be held to a mirror.
for the evening the chateau was floodlit with moving orange lights to give the impression that it was on fire. the staircase inside was lined by footmen dressed as cats that appeared to have fallen asleep in a variety of staged poses.
guests had to pass through a kind of labyrinth of hell, made of black ribbons to look like cobwebs. the occasional cat appeared to rescue the guests & lead them to the tapestry salon. here they were greeted by guy with a hat to resemble a still-life on a platter, & by marie-hélène wearing the head of a giant stag weeping tears made of diamonds.
marie-hélène proved that she had the flare & imagination to create something unique & worthwhile. none of this was created by charm alone. it needed a degree of ruthless determination. she attended to every minute detail of style in her life & also in her entertaining. she was a great hostess with all the qualities. she loved parties & people. she was forever in quest of new talent & new figures to entertain from the world of the arts, literature, dance & haute couture. she mixed them with the more established set of paris society. everyone was intrigued. marie-hélène's parties took on such importance that one social figure threatened to commit suicide unless she was invited.

josh hartnett.....hello hotty - where have you been hiding??
he looks smoking hot!

last night mario testino was honored at the el museo del barrio annual gala at cipriani's in new york.
"he has a way with things, to do whatever he wants," donatella versace told style.com "we know he will talk us into doing absolutely anything for him," kate winslet said in her introduction. "when mario turns to you and says, "it's beautiful, but i think it would be better naked, no? ' i wonder how can one refuse?"
during his closing statement from the dias, testino whipped out his camera & took a snapshot of the fashionable crowd prompting them to give him a huge round of applause.
new york magazine took the opportunity to ask carine roitfeld about her upcoming work when they bumped into her. "i'm doing an entire issue of v magazine with mario testino, and we'll start the shooting tomorrow," she said. when asked who was on the cover she responded, "kate winslet." they asked her if there were any truth to the rumours that she's starting a magazine and she said "maybe," coyly laughing, "now i have freedom like a butterfly, so i can go from one place to another."

just another manic monday - part two

models flanked the pool in the new jimmy choo line for h&m.

tamara mellon talking to paris & nicky hilton

m.i.a. performed at the party!

this is after several glasses of champagne and many, many appetizers.

the gift bag was this amazing studded bag by jimmy choo for h&m

the gorgeous & lovely pansy toulou from h&m invited me to the jimmy choo/h&m party which took place in a beautiful house in the hollywood hills. the party was hosted by jeffrey katzenberg & tamara mellon along with the amazing h&m crew.
we drank watermelon cocktails and champagne & had the most delicious appetizers. we kept commenting on how hot & sassy all the wait staff were. they really looked as if they came from central casting - only in hollywood!
the party was packed with celebrity sightings....rupaul, cheryl tiegs, kate walsh, anthony kiedis, rashida jones, all the hiltons, harry hamlin & wife lisa rinna, sheryl crow, waris, brent ratner and on & on! m.i.a. performed several songs & brought along her adorable son - he had little earphones on and was so super cute.
after cookies were served we were given this great studded zebra bag as our parting gift.
the line is super cute - there were several pieces i already want - a pair of leather leggings and a sequined tunic were both great. i can see "the kids" wearing the fringed dress and jumpsuit... overall i think the line is really nice. and of course, the shoes!
i'm a huge fan of h&m and their collaborations are always top notch and jimmy choo for h&m will not disappoint!
