margaux hemingway was such a huge model when i was a girl - she was in the same category as kim alexis & brooke shields - that all american beauty with full brows & a strong face. certain products take me back immediately - bonne bell, charlie, love's baby soft and of course, babe.  my mom didn't wear it but i remember seeing it at my aunts house on the dresser.  hemingway was the face for babe & received a million dollar contract from it's maker fabergé - the first model to do so.

her famous quote, told to a hollywood producer, was that she was 5 foot 12 inches - men are 6 feet, women are 5 feet 12 inches.  after many years of battling depression, she sadly committed suicide one day before her famous grandfather,  on july 1, 1996 at the age of 41.

these were all the ladies that heavily influenced me when i was a girl.  i've been thinking alot about time lately - it goes by so quickly -  i bought a 1920s dress on ebay recently and suddenly realized i was wearing a dress that was almost 94 years old. 94 years!
jerry hall was my number one favorite - of course because everyone told me how much i looked like her. after her was model kelly emberg....she was huge in those days & i loved her. back then my magazine of choice was cosmo...oh man, it was like a bible!  i remember following all the makeup tips - and there were alot back then!  shading & shadowing and blending - we were NOT the natural generation.  i remember ordering from the esprit catalog and waiting for it to come...i'm pretty sure i sent a check to them first!  no credit cards back in the day.
i don't think my style has veered too far away from those early days ... but i do i miss being 12 and super excited about everything and so starry eyed.  i forget how much these girls were an influence - before the internet and all the easy access to information they opened a door of possibility that i will forever be grateful for.  those were the days indeed.
