paris: before & after

at the beginning of the 20th century, wealthy french banker albert kahn embarked on a project, "archives of the planet," through which he sent photographers around the world to document, in an early color photography process called autochrome, the cultures & settlements of peoples from six continents.

over the last few weeks, audrey cerdan & pascal riche, a photographer & a writer for the french paper le nouvel observateur, have been going though kahn's archives of paris, mapping out & meticulously recreating the positions & angles of the original autochromes, & documenting whatever changes they observe. the results, which feature a back & forth slider are amazing.
