designer jil sander has left her eponymous label for the 3rd time, due to personal reasons. after an 8 year absence, she returned as creative director last year following the departure of raf simons. she founded the house in 1968 & in 1999 she sold a 75% stake to prada group. she had a rocky relationship with ceo patrizio bertelli & left a year later. she returned in 2003 but resigned in 2004 (again due to her relationship with bertelli).
current owners, japan's onward holding's ceo alessandro cremonesi said in a statement to wwd: "on behalf of the group i want to thank jil sander for her remarkable contribution to the brand over this period. her outstanding design and creative leadership have been crucial in reinforcing the brand and positioning it to foster further prosperous growth." it is not yet known who will succeed her as creative director.
