david bowie, born 8 january 1947 is 64 today.
i still remember the day i discovered david bowie, or actually, ziggy stardust.  here was a beautiful freak just like me!  ...the trifecta of musical influences that had the most impact for me were bob dylan, patti smith & david bowie.  dylan was the brains, patti was the sexuality and bowie, well bowie was this shiny freak that wore amazing clothes and painted his face and then opened his mouth and out fell the most amazing songs ever written.
bowie taught me to be who you are no matter what anyone thinks. i was a super smart, nerdy kid who spent a lot of time alone - i was jumped a few grades and never really connected with most of the other kids. bowie changed all that. suddenly i could be weird but beautiful, scary & intelligent. i could be anything i wanted, look any way i wanted and think anything i wanted. bowie gave me the confidence to become who i am today....and to never, ever care what anyone thought about what you wore, how your hair was styled or colored or what you painted on your face or what you believed in.
thank you mr. bowie.....although....i still miss your pointy little teef!
