a song for you

serge lutens' moroccan hideaway

serge lutens' house in located in the heart of marrakech's medina. lutens designed virtually everything, "you could call it an obsession", says lutens of the house, which has been under construction for the past 35 years. the reclusive lutens doesn't even sleep here; he spends most of his time in a small studio outside town. the house "chased me out" he says. he wonders whether, like a writer who's terrified of finishing his novel, he has sometimes invented excuses to stave off the project's inevitable end. "there are times where you just have to be completely occupied," he says, "otherwise you fall apart." (from w magazine)

suzy solidor was born in 1900 in brittany, france under the name suzanne louise marie marion - she changed her name to suzy solidor when she moved to paris in the 1920s. she was a popular singer who owned the chic nightclub "la vie parisienne". she became known as the "most painted woman in the world" posing for some of the greatest artists of her time including pablo picasso, man ray, tamara lempicka, georges braque, francis picabia and many others. her only stipulation for the sittings was that she would be given the paintings to hang in her club. she died in 1983 in cagnes-sur-mer.
