gone but not forgotten - stacia napierkowska

stacia napierkowska was a french actress and dancer. she was born as renée claire angele élisabeth napierkowski in paris, france in 1891. she started her career as a dancer and was quite successful. in 1913 she was arrested during a performance in new york city when it was declared indecent. she said "really, i have not brought away a single pleasant memory from the united states....what a narrow-minded people they are-how utterly impervious to any beautiful impression."
in 1908 she made her film debut alongside fellow dancer mistinguette in l'empreinte ou la main rouge. she appeared in the 1915 ten part silent film serial les vampires. by 1920 when shooting began in morroco on one of her most successful films, l'atlantide, by director jacques feyder, she arrived bloated and overweight.
having appeared in over 80 films, she soon sank into oblivion and died in paris in 1945 at the age of 53. sadly, the only personal information i could find on her was the fact that she was known as the first person to allow her dog to sleep in her bed! outrageous!
