laughter & forgetting

so today, after trying to retrieve my information off my computer's hard drive for the past 2 weeks, i came to the realization that it was all lost. all my contacts & addresses, all my emails, all my calendars. files full of quotes, recipes and the diligent notation of the dates of where & with whom i had dinner with, what jobs i worked on, what boyfriends i was with....all gone with the wind. it made me think of memory and how we hold it and shape it. did it really happen if i can't look back and see those words written somewhere? i finally let it go (or so i keep telling myself). i've lost so many things along the way and this too shall pass.
Please email me at sthenry7@earthlink.net so that i can start to rebuild...

i am reminded of two quotes from my absolute favorite authors:

"For after all, what can memory actually do, the poor thing? It is only capable of retaining a paltry little scrap of the past, and no one knows why just this scrap and not some other one, since in each of us the choice occurs mysteriously, outside our will or our interests. We won't understand a thing about human life if we persist in avoiding the most obvious fact: that a reality no longer is what it was when it was; it cannot be reconstructed."
-Milan Kundera

and....
"The Hopi, an Indian tribe, have a language as sophisticated as ours, but no tenses for past, present and future. The division does not exist. What does this say about time?
Matter, the thing the most solid and the well-known, which you are holding in your hands and which makes up your body, is now known to be mostly empty space. Empty space and points of light. What does this say about the reality of the world?"
-Jeanette Winterson

nothing tastes as good as skinny feels

while promoting her new perfume "vintage", kate moss was asked by WWD what her motto is....kate replied: "there are loads. there's 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.' that's one of them."
so okay, i want to bust her but....you know, i kind of agree. i know, it's horrible....and as much as i love my cheese (mmmmm....cheese) nothing feels better than slipping on a sexy dress and knowing you look amazing in it. it's like ava gardner said: "deep down i'm really superficial".

ungaro talks too....

emanuel ungaro, who hasn't had any contact with his label since he left in 2005, spoke monday night at the international film festival in estoril, near lisbon.  "lindsay lohan's collaboration was a disaster.  I am furious but i can't do anything about it." He also said he regretted that the fashion house he started "is in the process of losing its soul."

what?  yves saint laurent was a high-strung bitchy diva?  never saw that coming.....
tom ford opens up about his stint at ysl in the dec 09/jan 10 issue of the advocate.  when he left the label in 2004, saint laurent said of ford: "i think he has a lot of talent for, what do you call it, marketing. but he never showed interest in the archives." ford, who has never publicly spoken about his time there until now says "being at yves saint laurent was such a negative experience for me though the business boomed while i was there. yves and his partner, pieree bergé, were so difficult and so evil and made my life such misery."

the world remembers

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

— Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)
