romeo gigli is back....again. the new project is XII XII XLIX par romeo gigli. i have a special place in my heart for gigli. i still remember the first romeo gigli jacket i purchased back in the 90s. i still have it and it's still amazing. and gah, how about callaghan when he was designing it?? oh la la.
i really love the hair in the fendi show. i so wish i had the skills to make this happen but sadly my hair is usually pulled back in a ponytail with the bangs tucked in a bobby pin. the awful thing is that i actually went to beauty school (many, many years ago). love, love, love!
i had to go back this morning and look at the show again because i wasn't sure how i felt about it....but actually, there are some really great pieces and i kind of like the direction - very vintage, very italian, yes a little dowdy but for some reason it works. a bit refreshing after all the super sexy, super young collections.
"around her" lartigue wrote "i see a halo of light." lartigue met the gorgeous renée perle on the rue de le pompe in 1930 and wrote in his diary shortly after "she is beautiful. the small mouth with full painted lips! the ebony black eyes. from under a fur coat comes a warmth of perfume. her head looks petite on her long neck." she became his lover and muse for the next 2 years as they played in cannes, juan-les-pins and biarritz. she was a romanian jewish girl who had moved to paris and modeled for dress-maker doeuillet. she painted naive self-portraits of herself. these are the only details that remain of her life. i wonder what happened to her? everything i've read alludes to the fact that she was a professional model but other than the lartigue photographs i can find nothing else. she died in paris in 1977, age unknown. but, wow, what a spectacular beauty with amazing style. she has inspired designers, including galliano as well as many editorials.
a private funeral service took place today for alexander mcqueen. the ceremony was an intimate affair attended only by the designer's family and closest friends including kate moss, naomi campbell, stella mccartney, daphne guinness and sam taylor-wood. his father ronald was joined by his five children at the ceremony. it is expected that a larger memorial service open to his supporters will take place later this year, but nothing has been confirmed. a spokesman for the label said "we are focusing right now on the paris show, which takes place on march 9." a final goodbye to a brilliant designer who was truly a fashion icon. you will be missed.
